Setting a new standard for road safety, the Scorpion II TA stands alone as the world’s first towable attenuator to be MASH-tested, passed, and eligible. This innovation represents a major advancement in protecting work zones and the people who work in them.
Designed for mobility and impact absorption, the Towable Attenuator (TA) functions as a mobile crash cushion. Its connection system, featuring a trailer tongue and axle/wheel assembly, allows for direct attachment to a support vehicle’s trailer connection via a lunette eye. This system is compatible with support vehicles weighing a minimum of 12,000 lbs, with no specified upper weight limit. The TA’s key components include a trailer tongue, a front strut, and a rear cartridge. The tongue connects to the vehicle and incorporates a Telescoping Anti-Rotation System (TARS) that is engineered to activate upon impact. The TA’s dimensions are 17.8 feet x 8 feet x 4.3 feet, with a ground clearance of approximately 12 inches.
